Occupational therapy

WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?
Occupational therapy is based on the assumption that being active has a healing effect when activities are specifically selected and are meaningful for the patient. Occupational therapy is represented in all medical disciplines and is used for people of all ages. Physical, psychological and social impairments that have arisen as a result of accidents, illness, disabilities or developmental disorders are treated. Occupational therapy is based on holistic thinking and therapy approaches. The therapeutic training is based on the individual needs of the patient. The overarching goal is always to develop, maintain, regain or expand the greatest possible satisfaction and ability to act in everyday life. The patient's relationship to the environment plays an important role in this.

WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOR CHILDREN?

If the aspect of coping with everyday life is transferred to the child's world, the focus of occupational therapy is on the child's ability to act independently, play, interact with peers, and meet the demands of kindergarten or school. Parents and other caregivers play an important role in this.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TREATMENT?

In occupational therapy, the limitations that the child has in coping with everyday life are recorded through observations, tests and questioning of the parents/ caregivers.  The possible causes are subsequently investigated. The child is considered as a whole. The further course of action is decided together with the parents and the prescribing doctors. An individual training plan will be developed.

The parents are present during the training or are regularly involved in the therapeutic process and are advised on home support options.

Target Group

Babies, toddlers, preschoolers and school children with: developmental delays and developmental dyspraxia, behavioral problems, attention and concentration disorders, emotional difficulties, cerebral movement disorders and other disabilities/limitations, etc.

WHEN IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TREATMENT NECESSARY FOR CHILDREN?

Children develop at different speeds, but they normally do make small, steady progress. They are naturally curious, show a drive for action and enjoy playing and learning. When is it an option to wait out a delayed development or when is treatment required? In general, the earlier a treatment begins, the better. Parents often sense when their child is "different", when "something is wrong" with their child. Kindergarten teachers and other caregivers can also become aware of a child's difficulties in coping with everyday life.
